Gold Miner Hook?

Question

I am wondering how to do a hook like in Gold Miner that the line can be elongate and shorten？

I am thinking about to change the transform of the texture of line, but the disadvantage is the texture will be blur once the line is long.

Any other good ideas?

scale the UVs proportionally to the scale of the 'rope'. tada, no stretching.
