Pulling objects towards eachother?

Hi! :)

I'm doing a Kart Racer and one of the weapons you'll be able to pick up is a grappling hook used to pull yourself up to the nearest enemy. I've been struggling for a while with this now. I could just add the relative force between the two cars to your car to push you forward and even though that works (most of the time) the acceleration looks all wrong and it doesn't behave as you would expect.

The most obvious choice would be some kind of joint that i could retract over time and then release when close enough, but i can't for the life of me figure out how to change the distance of those joints.

Last time i asked here for help along these lines i was dismissed with the words "Learn Inverse Kinematics" - But i know what inverse kinematics is, and apply it to my tests, that is not the issue.

I really hope someone can point me in the right direction, as i've tried to pull objects towards each other for a while now and it bothers me that something seemingly so simple can give so much trouble.

Okay, in case i'm not the only one looking for an answer to this:

Using a springjoint with a heavy spring value and a max distance equal to the distance between it's anchors. I was able to reduce the max distance over time to create the effect i was looking for.
