How do I achieve pixel perfect text on retina displays?
I have tried Unity GUI, NGUI (with BitMap and Dynamic fonts), and TextMeshPro, but no matter what settings, or how high fidelity my atlases are, I cannot seem to achieve perfectly crisp text on standalone OSX builds running on a MacBook with retina display. Any ideas on what else I can try?

The whole idea with Retina Display and Retina HD Display is that pixels become imperceptible at ~10" (average viewing distance) with 20/20 vision. Your question doesn't really make sense here then. No matter where you put your GUI object, in theory, it should look the same since you can't see the pixels.
Right, I guess I should rephrase then. On retina displays, my text looks pixelated even though the actual on screen pixels are not visible. The text is rendered blurry with every way that I've tried so far.

Sorry to post on such old thread but since 2014 nothing has changed regarding retina support... Retina is simply not supported at the moment in Unity Standalones...
Please support this entry by giving as much votes as possible to have a chance this to happen: https://feedback.unity3d.com/suggestions/retina-for-os-x-standalone-builds
