Issues rotating a UI image while the canvas is parented to the Main Camera

After parenting a canvas with a UI image to the main camera so I can then use the image as a reticle, the image becomes completely flat and unable to rotate on the Y axis and stays perpendicular to the camera. It works properly when not parented so I am entirely unsure as to what the issue is. Any help is appreciated.
