[Solved] How many computers can I install Unity FREE on? (Using the same account)

I want to install the unpaid version on 3 machines. Possible?

I guess so. At least I did it on two machines and I did not get any complain from Unity.

Well, I think 2 machines is the general limit for all licenses, so I can't really use your answer as 'good' I'm afraid.

i'm legitimately interested in hearing any possible means of using unity free on multiple computers to somehow circumvent something which unity has in place. i have literally no idea how multiple installs of a personal unity-free could have any negative impact on unity as a company or provide any benefit to you that you would not have with multiple accounts.

if there's no possible way to cause any sort of harm or unfair advantage i really don't see how anyone could take issue to it, other than by legal necessity to maintain precedent, which still sounds like a far-fetched reason and not something worth throwing resources at, provided you're not advertising how you've 'totally gotten around that one company's rules, brah'

When you activate your copy of Unity using the "free" option, you get provided a serial number. This serial number is good for just a single machine. To have Unity Free run on three machines you simply perform activation on each machine. You'll end up with a unique serial number on each machine.

If you have purchased add-ons for your free license, then the serial number you will receive is good for use on two machines. Note that only you as the owner of this free plus add-on serial number can use it.

Thanks Graham, you have answered this way more concisely than was answered already. I did ask my questions very clearly and concisely but was consistently given an ambiguous answer.

Your explanation regarding the serial numbers totally clears it up, even the other Unity rep failed to illustrate this. Perhaps this should also be amended in the official documentation as I scoured this before asking what could be perceived as a 'silly' question. But it appears the documentation has others confused too..

As to your point above, I had no intention of 'sharing my serial with another user'. $$anonymous$$y intention was to circumvent the 'one user per free Unity' (that we now know does not exist), by using my other email address....that is also me, not another user.

Thanks again for your insight on this, ticked as answered.

Yea. This is why I'm asking here to see if others have successfully achieved it.

Are you saying it IS possible?

The license says that only one per machine, actually:

Free, Trial and Educational Product Restrictions. If you are using a free, trial or educational version of the Software, you may install the Software on a single computer only.

But it depends on what you want to do, i.e. you can register one license per physical user.

Also, is a bit weird to me that they state that Unity Free is a fully featured version of the engine (isn't the pro version the fully featured one, indeed?):

“Unity Free” means the full featured version of the Unity software.

Interesting. I emailed them directly recently to ask about having IOS pro + Unity Free on 2 machines and they said it was A-O$$anonymous$$.

This has now confused the issue somewhat.

AFAI$$anonymous$$, you can't mix up licenses. BUT, they said O$$anonymous$$ :)

Copies of Unity Pro and Other Paid Products. You may install Unity Pro and any other paid Unity products on both a primary computer and a secondary computer, solely for your convenience, but only for use by a single person. You may make a single copy of the Software solely for backup or archival purposes. For the sake of clarity, you may only use one installation at any given time. We may in our sole discretion authorize you to install the Software on an additional computer or computers upon deactivation of the Software installed on existing computers.

Still doesn't clear up the free issue though does it?
