Unity 2020 Hold on, Application.Tick, etc. appearing all the time for over 15 minutes at a time. What is causing this and how do I stop it?
Hi,
We're working on a 60GB project on top-of-the-line machines, but there's a dialog box that keeps appearing saying things like "Hold on" and "Application.Tick" and "Application.ExecuteMenuItem", etc. for over 15 minutes a pop. One of them is - as I write this - still going, and has been doing so for over an hour. It's killing our productivity battling Unity 2020's slowness. An example would be, I made a 2-line code change, which took 5 minutes to import and then I saved, which took 39 minutes. Over 40 minutes total for 2 lines of code is unusable.
This wasn't a problem in 2019 or 2018, what's going on? Is there a fix? Is 2020 just broken and we need to move to 2021?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Same here. An empty project with nothing in the scene and while clicking .fbx i get this for about 5-10 seconds. Also when walking though files and folders it sometimes appears.
Huh this is so annoying and wrecks my focus and patience...

I had the same issue myself... I ended up reverting back to version 2019

Same here for 2020.3.1f1
this is ok if it's one time.. but if it's almost EVERY time .. it's frustrating

Same for me 2020.3.5f1 Not to gloat cause that's annoying but I have an EXTREMELY nice machine, this is 1000x a unity bug not witnessed prior to upgrading from 2019.X
I'm losing roughly 1h per day to this very annoying bug, you don't have to do much to trigger it. In my case you can simply open the project, prior to anything just toggle an objects hierarchy visibility view (aka you haven't actually DONE anything). This will prompt the error for at least 1m, this being the simplist way I've found to flag the error though nearly EVERYTHING else does it to. It seems very random as you can repeat any action and receive or not receive the error.
Sigh, I don't enjoy wasting time ranting - but I've spent less time with this message than I will dealing with this in the future, PLEASE UPDATE!!!
Thanks everyone!!
