Assets import in just few hours to Mac platform but 4 days when switching to Android with ASTC
I had a huge android project of a game I'd earlier released for Oculus Gear VR. Haven't worked on it in a while and had to re-import it when I first opened it in a newer version of Unity. Following advises, I'd deleted the Library project because I read it's faster if you import from scratch. Indeed, the entire 6Gb Library was created in just about 5 or 6 hours. However, for no reason, the re-imported project's build settings weren't the same as in the original project. The assets were imported for Mac platform, no idea why Unity switches platform when you import into a new Unity version. To fix that, I had to switch platform to Android with ASTC (my preferred build setting for Gear VR instead of ETC2), also IP2CPP (not sure how much that adds to build time). This time I didn't delete the Library folder because I wasn't sure if that would force Unity to quit, forcing me to import again into the Mac platform. So I just switched platform. This time the import process took 40 hours to finish.
About 8 times longer than the simple Mac import. So what's the reason for the hugely inflated import time? Is it because I hadn't deleted Library beforehand? Or is because of Android, or ASTC or what could lead so much longer import time?
