CAN I REALISTICALLY MAKE A MMORPG WITH UNITY
i have just started using unity and i'am quite interested in developing a mmorpg
i have programmers, artist animators that i have paid. etc there are six people altogether. so my question is this.
can i make a mmorpg with unity
is it possible to have my models cell shaded or do i need unity pro
since this is a indie project, how big should the map be. how many players should i aim for per server
can you program dynamic events in unity
is it difficult to get my game on a game portal( miniclip, steam)
a dynamic event meaning certain things happen sporaically and can change the direction of the game.. for example if an npc runs towards telling me that her house is on fire ,i should go and get water to put it out..
the events will be similar to guild wars 2
If you have heard of Battlestar Galactica Online you would know that it is possible. Whether you and your $$anonymous$$m can or can not make one is completely up to you and your $$anonymous$$m and isn't related to Unity at all.
If your self-confidence can't tell you if you're able to do something, how should we? You should do a feasibility study, deter$$anonymous$$e what technology / knowledge you need for your game concept and evaluate your $$anonymous$$m if it can handle it.
yh thanks, i need to start from basics. i just got a loan to produce my game and i dont want to wait
$$anonymous$$ake the money, don't let the money make you.
Having the money to fund a game doesn't mean you can just start paying people and have it turn out as you expect. Forgive me if my assumption is wrong, but based on your knowledge of Unity I'm guessing this is your first time working with this $$anonymous$$m, and it would be a financial mistake to dive in headfirst with a new $$anonymous$$m to a project as ambitious as an $$anonymous$$$$anonymous$$O. By all means make a networked game, but I'd start smaller.
I would really advise you spend a week or two making a prototype, especially if your only real deadline is get it done before you run out of money. Define the basic mechanics you need for your game (Character movement, basic combat, networking, a quest system, etc) and make basic versions of those systems. If you don't have any problems, great! Your game has already been worked on for two weeks and you continue building off of the prototype. But if it doesn't work as planned you will be able to reevaluate the project to something more realistically achievable, and you can decide to either scrap the prototype or work off of it.
But of course I'm not the one with a bank account full of money to fund a game, so it's up to you.

Yes, good luck.
Yes, no.
Totally up to you, the amount of data you are pushing and willing to pay, the Master Server is for game matching and not for MMORPG's, you will need to figure out the back and and make it work within unity.
That's up to you, there isn't anything stopping your Server from issuing an event to take place, that's up to you.
There is no way of determining how difficult any distro channel is or isn't to get listed/published on. It's all based off experience and what you bring to the table, if you make an insane game that has an insane following, things may be easier. Miniclip != Steam, thats odd to lump them together.
On another note, MMORPG's are extremely hard to complete, hell a normal game of any desirable quality is also difficult to make. Good luck, you'll need it.
well, this is the perfect answer for all those questions, i still think that, everyone wants to the first project they make is a $$anonymous$$$$anonymous$$ORPG, nobody tries to make small and basic games first

Try Photon from Exit Games. They provide multiplayer support for unity that can suit your needs. I'm interested in their project and It looks neat. May be you should give it a try. They also have a free version and a 30 day trial. Good luck!

Can it be done? Yes.
Realistically as a first project? No way.
MMORPGs are very complicated to make, I would recommend starting with something smaller. If you want to work up to that, I would make a sandbox game where you make character movement and a few basic actions, then try adding multiplayer to it and make it so two+ players can run around in your sandbox, then start to add more gameplay elements as you go along and get them to line up correctly for both players.
