Making good crossroads in NavMesh
I am creating a NavMesh for a city and trying to find the best way to implement the navigation for my crossroads. The crossroads are decals projected downwards in a prism. I tried just setting the decal objects to be walkable navigation statics, but the problem here is that this prism is actually higher up than the road (for the decal projection), meaning that the pedestrians will hover over the road as they cross it. I also tried the NavMeshLink component from the NavMeshComponents API, but the movement looks very unnatural.
What I think would solve my issue, but I am not quite sure how to do is having the crossroad decal be used for generation of the walkable surface, but not the heightmesh, meaning they would not use the crossroads for navigation but still be on the road mesh. Does anyone here know how to accomplish this?
