Get volume from microphone to make something happen

Hi, I´m trying to make something happen when you speak into a microphone. I´ve made so you can speak into the audio source but I cant seem to find any way to make things happen when you talk/scream. The problem is that it is recording at all time but it doesnt notice if you talk. Any tips or ideas how to fix that?
