Why is my scene dark without lightmaps even if I don't have any static geometry in the scene?
I've been reading through the Unity docs on global illumination and lighting and I'm very confused. Based on what I've read, baked GI and precomputed realtime GI only affect the static geometry of the scene (GameObjects explicitly marked "Static" or "Lightmap Static"). None of the objects in my scene are static. Yet when I delete LightingData.asset and turn off "Auto Generate" (which therefore turns off all GI), my scene suddenly becomes dimmer. This makes no sense to me because all of the baked/precomputed GI (and consequently any information that would be in LightingData.asset) shouldn't affect anything in my scene, so deleting LightingData.asset and turning off precomputation shouldn't affect my lighting. But it does.
Could someone point out what I'm missing here? Something doesn't add up.
This is a bit of a hail-mary, but does the problem still occur if you set the ambient source to a color ins$$anonymous$$d of the skybox?
