Which API and class do I need for networking to a central server(always on)?
I have been looking through all the docs and am still looking, don't get me wrong, but I am very lost as to what I should be using exactly since most of what I find is directed to multiplayer gaming and a user hosting the server (i may also be reading something incorrectly).
My goal is to have a server that will connect with a database and the server talks to all the games, but no one game is connected to a another (like in a mrpg).
The way it would work is a user starts a game, if he is connected to the internet it contacts the always active server letting it know, it's on and details about it self so the Database can store that. If there are any queued packets of info to be sent to that user it can then be sent. The user can also contact the server when it needs to access its services.
So I was thinking of maybe using post, get protocols to communicate between the two, but I'm not sure if this is the best solution (also if a post is called at the same time from different users would that cause a problem?). I only need the access to the server from the user at specific times, when either the user or server indicates, but the user will automatically start and terminate the connection, or I guess the server would also be able to terminate, just not start.
So any advice as where to go and what to use I've been looking at Scripting API, the forums and some guides but I don't quite understand where to go in regards to my game. I appreciate the help.
