Question by MrVinceDiggity · Jan 16, 2013 at 12:06 AM · pong

I'm making a Pong game, and it's my first game, how do I add a script that move the paddles?

I'm using RockPaperShotgun.com's tutorial, but when it says what to paste into the script, it says my scripts need to be compiled before I can enter playmode.

Are you getting any errors in your console? If your console window isn't open goto Window/Console. Look for Red. Red is bad. :)

@iwaldrop Well, I think so because at the very bottom, I've never seen it NOT say there's an error after I tried to put the controls into my left and right paddles.

Well the Unity console is pretty cool. You can double click on those lines and most of them will take you to the line of code that has a problem. Try that, then copy/paste some code here, and we'll try to help you out!

Nope, if I double-click an error it says Script: C:/Users/Vince/Documents/New Unity Project/Assets/Player1Controls.js Line: 2 Char: 19 Error: Invalid character Code: numbers._. Source: JScript compilation error oh, and sorry I just deleted everything in the original comment and replaced it with this.

You don't need Command Prompt for anything. Also, use the "101-010" button in the answer field to format your code so we can read it (but remember not to accidentally post the comment as an answer :))

You should be able to double-click on any error in Unity's console - or just the single line at the bottom of the window if the console is closed - and it'll open the offending file. It also gives the exact line number, so point that out to us for more help as well. :)
