Drawing/Writing Text Over Sprite
Hi everyone. I am trying to create something similar to Instagram Story/Snapchat - where users can type some text, draw and add stickers on a blank sheet.
The question I have is regarding drawing over a sprite. So far, I have found a great asset that allows me to draw on any given sprite (as long as I attach the script, add a box collider and enable read/write access to the sprite texture) Link: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/painting/free-draw-simple-drawing-on-sprites-2d-textures-113131
The asset is fantastic because any drawing on it is automatically applied to the sprite, so once im done with my drawing, I can actually save this sprite that contains my sketches. I am looking to provide similar functionality for users to type text onto the sprites and have the changes saved as well.
I have seen similar posts online regarding adding text to sprite, but most of them suggested using 3D text, or adding a TextMesh child object etc - which means that it will only be displayed on game view, but the text isn't going to be applied onto the sprite itself, unlike my drawing.
Upon deeper considerations, a 3D text may make sense because I want to give the user the ability to resize the text by pinching and stretching, drag and move the text to a different location and I don't know if that's possible with drawing text to the sprite itself (since any text that was drawn is already applied to the sprite itself, and we need to remove it when "moving" it, which seems like a challenging task)
Nonetheless, I did not want to make any assumption as I'm not very experienced with this, so I would like to seek advice from anyone who is reading this! Thanks so much in advanced!
