character recognition

Hi all,

I'm just sounding out here :-) I need to do some basic character recognition on a touch screen. Such as a circle, square etc. I was thinking about 'somehow' having way points your finger must meet/exceed so that I have a potential to antisipate what shape you are trying to draw. Just wondering if anyone else has any thoughts on the suggest or perhaps a better method. I need the method to be fast but only need simple shape recognition i.e. so probably all single strokes.
