Maya Animation Import Issue

Using Maya 2011, i have modeled a figure that has arm and leg animation. cleared the history on all transforms, built a skeleton with the joint system, animated with IK, saved, imported into Unity. Here i am able to bring in the Object and position it wherever. I set the Import Animation to the correct frames but i can not get the animation to play. Sometimes the animation on the root joint of the skeleton plays (causing the model to scoot around funny using the joint as a 'pivot point') but for the most part no animation. I have tried using both smooth and rigid body skin binding for the model.

If anyone can help it would be extremely appreciated. Ive been fighting with this for about 2 weeks and am getting very frustrated. Thank you in advance.

try baking the animation on export in your fbx options under the animation section of the fbx plugin. also you can bake out the ik in maya but that would be less convenient for future changes to the animation, you would have to exit your scene or undo the bake after export. I guess I should have made this an answer not a comment. oh well.
