Question by orlyvdj · Nov 02, 2012 at 08:00 AM · runtimeloadfilebrowser

How to load a script at runtime?

I'm doing a virtual game where players need users to program the behavior of their players, but I need to load the code generated by THE USER at runtime. How I can do this in Unity 3d?

Ok so this is pretty difficult and depends on your platform. It's pretty much only going to work on standalone only I think. That's presu$$anonymous$$g your players are actually writing real code - you could use a scripting language like LUA, I think that you can force this to be usable on many platforms. I ended up writing my own because LUA was too slow.

it's a case of G$$anonymous$$TA or as the Americanos would say "I wanna be like $$anonymous$$ike" :)

Essentially you can't do it, Orly.

You have to write your own language.

I recently had to create an entire ****ing scripting language (it's called TesteScript)

so that one can totally script the levels of a platformer-shmup type of game.

(in this case purely so a Client of someone could develop the front end of some title, if you see what I mean.)

This goes to show you, once a hooker, always a hooker :-/
