Unity for Additive Manufacturing Sim
Hi all,
I bumped into this post on how Unity was recently revamped to be more friendly for robotics simulations: https://blogs.unity3d.com/2020/11/19/robotics-simulation-in-unity-is-as-easy-as-1-2-3/
So I thought its time to investigate if it can solve an issue I've been having with many simulators for robotics before (VRep, gazebo, etc.)
I want to simulate a large-scale 3D Printing process (think clay, concrete). At this stage, I don't care about the material being deposited having physical properties e.g. dripping/deforming, etc. The simple problem I've been having is how to spawn/create this structure incrementally.
Say I'm printing a house 1cm^3 at a time. I want to be able to perceive the printed material (simulation of depth camera etc) whilst it's being printed. I also want to be able to detect collisions with it. I have tried in the past spawning loads of static cubes in other simulators but that has very quickly proven to be not scalable.
Is this problem solvable in Unity? What would you advise me to look into?
Thanks!
