Where to start in galaxy map generation for a 4x game?
Hello - I am attempting to make my very own turn-based space 4x game - all the tutorials I have seen/read on Unity seem geared towards 1st/3rd person RPGs... where you create terrain for the character to move on. So how does one go about creating a tile-based galaxy map (i.e. some tiles have star systems and you can click on it to show the planets)? Do you make it via terrain? If so, do you divide it into squares? I am sorry the question is kind of vague/general, but I just do not even have a general idea of how to get started.
Thanks.
just to be clear, it has utterly nothing, whatsoever, to do with the "Terrain" feature in Unity. it is completely unrelated.
at this point do you actually know if your game will be 3D or 2.5D?

okay - I'm looking at 2.5D - kind of like Space Empires V (but better :))
