"Visible Meta Files" obsolete for Git in Unity 2019?
Used to be, you had to select Editor > Visible Meta Files if you wanted Unity to create Meta files in the Assets folder to use Git version control with Unity. You can still find it as recommendation in the documentation.
I'm currently on Unity 2019.1 on Windows and as far as I can see, changing between Hidden or Visible Meta files only affects the explorer visibility of the files. The files exist either way, but in case of "Hidden Meta Files" I can only see them in the Windows explorer, if I select the "Hidden files" option (which I always keep on). Git doesn't really care about explorer visibility and will list the files either way.
Does this mean, this information from the documentation is outdated?

Had the same question and stumbled acros this post while googling. After a bit of poking I found in ProjectSettings/EditorSettings.asset
that the setting is m_ExternalVersionControlSupport: Visible Meta Files
by default now.
Edit: Also I am blind, the Version Control settings are now under Project Settings > Version Control
