How do I get rid over these things over my text?

I'm trying to use textmesh pro. All the settings are there and they all seem to be working. But when I click on the element in the Hierarchy, a giant blue T with a box around it appears. What the heck is going on? As you can see in the image. The text on the right is selected while this huge object appears over the text. Now when I select the text on the left, it will switch. I can't get rid of it. alt text

Thanks for any help you can provide. I am so frustrated.
