Set initial joint position
I have a robot arm made up of rigid body links and hinge joints. I would like to be able to set it to an initial position before starting a simulation- preferably through the editor ratehr than code as it would be easier to visualise. Is there any way to do this? Thanks
Do you mean something like a gate which tries to pull itself closed, but is currently open? I don't think that's possible. It would have to start closed, -- that's how the system knows that Closed is how it should be. Then have the code snap it using a RotateAround the hinge position (or any other way to get it into the Open position).
When you put it that way, it clarifies for me that the hinge joint is not intended for use in the way I want. Would skeletons be more appropriate for this kind of usage?
If you want something that automatically bends when it's pushed, then bounces, then flexes back when it can, then it's some sort of Joint. Hinges, characterJoints, springs, Avatars (skeletons?) are all using just Joints.
If you want to position it yourself, simply using empties to put the origin at the end should be fine.
