Compress Tilemap Bounds is not saving?
I have a camera in my game that uses the tiles in the scene to position itself. If I place down tiles and then later erase them, the tilemap bounds are larger than what is actually in the scene; this is fixed by selecting the tilemap in the inspector, hitting the gear icon, and clicking "Compress Tilemap Bounds."
When I do this, my problem is solved, but every time I close Unity and re-open it again the tilemap is back to its old bounds. Is it just a bug that Unity's tilemap will not compress? Or am I doing something wrong? I am using Unity 2019.1.3f1
Same issue here on Unity 2019.2.17f1. Did you find a solution? I'm starting to think it's a bug.

I ran into the same issue after noticing that it wasn't being saved as well. The editor doesn't seem to recognise a change was made when you compress the tilemap bounds hence pressing CTRL+S doesn't do anything. So I just went to the menu and "Saved Scene as" and saved over the scene (feels dirty I know). Alternatively, you could just make another change straight after the compression and hit CTRL+S I guess.
Cheers
