How to swap textures, only within an objects confines?
I want to create a flashlight feature, but I don't want to use a shader, as it makes the game look more realistic and I'm going for a sort of "cartoonish/comic book" look. I want to have two textures placed on the same object, one with a black tint to simulate darkness, and one that looks like it has lighting on it, and i want the light from a flashlight to be a game object. That way, when the "light" touches a wall or something, only the texture within the light appears to be lit, because only that part of the texture is above the black texture. How would I go about scripting something like that? I'm also pretty much brand new to game development, so going into detail so I can learn would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there a name for this already? If there is, what is it, so I can look around to see if I can get a better understanding of this?
