How to automatically align two maps of different format in Unity
Hey everyone,
I would like to align two maps of different format. One is a 3D map in .obj format the other 'map' is not a map but consiting of many speheres in 2D (x and y) which are positioned to form a map (2Dmap). I get the positions for the spheres of the 2Dmap from an external application through websockets and display them in unity. The 3D map is already existing in the scene when the app starts. Because the coordinate systems of both maps are different they are not aligned correctly. So I want to achieve that they match together. I looked up in the internet and found something called ICP algorithm (iterative closest point) which tries to align two 2D maps, but its very power consuming. I would like to ask if there are other approaches and ideas that I could use to achieve that. Hope for your answers and thanks very much in advance!
