Assertion failed: Assertion failed on expression: 'SUCCEEDED(hr)'
I know I am not the first one to ask this, but I just wanted to give anyone who is searching a possible other solution to the problem a hint, because a lot of other posts recommend things like "Setting windows back to a previous backup" or so.
The problem occured to me (Dell XPS 15, GT540M, Intel I7, Windows 10, Unity 2018.2.18f1) when I tried to use two monitors. From reading the other forum posts, it seems this is a general multi monitor setup problem.
What helped me was unplugging the second monitor, restart windows, open Unity and after that (!) plug in the second monitor. Doing this resulted in Unity working flawlessly again.
Overall this is still pretty anoying, because every time my laptop goes into sleep mode, I need to do this procedure all over again because the windows on the second screen are completly white after that. So my question is: Does anyone at Unity is aware of this problem? Or have a more usefull patch to this?
