How do I make a little flame for a lighter?
I can't find out how to make a little fire particle for my lighter I'm trying to make. Please help.
Have you found the settings in the Inspector for the Particle Emitter? Read what they all do, get a pen, play with the ones you don't quite get and write what those do. Once you know the settings, making whatever effect you need isn't too tricky.

Instead of particles, can't you use a simple Point Light with a flare attached to it?

Hi, if you want to use particles this is the way:
Simple Object(Empty)selected -> add (Component:Particles:Ellipsoid Particle Emitter) -> add (Component:Particles:Particle Animator) -> add (Component:Particles:Particle Rederer).
Just adjust the parameters in the Ellipsoid Emitter to set the correct size and emitting to make the desire effect you wants, the particle animator is to set the color during the emitting and the renderer it's to put some material to the particles.
Hopes this helps.
How do I make the flame super thin? I'm trying to but can't. :(
Err... why jot just GameObject...ParticleSystem it does all those steps for you.
Because (I've seen this many times,) you click gameObject and your eyes glide over CreateOther. You then try Component and it says Particles right there.
I recommend an extra tab reading "Advanced", holding particles, mesh and rendering components, to scare people back into the GameObject tab.
^ what Warwick Allison said, with one small change, under particle renderer --> Stretch particles, use stretched. Then, set the length scale's value to something like 3 or 4... Also, try playing around with the other settings there, you ought to find those very useful! Hope this helps!

You could also make a 'video' of a flame (use tiles, see Sprites) and billboard the plane you put it on with http://www.unifycommunity.com/wiki/index.php?title=LookAtCameraYonly
