Unity Ubuntu unable to sign in because of Gnome desktop Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Hello, I spent three hours this morning trying to install Unity on Ubuntu.
Nothing was wrong with the software itself. When I clicked sign in on the Unity Hub it then opened my browser went to a URL to the unity API and generated What looked like a hash token.
Instead of opening that hash token in unity Gnome tried to open it and then it glitched out because for some reason it thought that only a program already installed on my computer should be able to open it. Then I have literally no option but to close the dialogue box. It also suggested that I download the gnome store.
So for some reason my default browser was Firefox so I installed vanilla chromium to make sure some obscure plug in was not blocking it.
Then I Installed the Gnome store same issue.
I then browsed google for an hour trying to find anyone else with this sign in issue, but I had no luck everything I could find online was from people having server side issues.
Then I realised that this is a problem with Gnome, so I installed XFCE destktop on my Linux machine and did the install with no issue.
My system is up to date I installed Ubuntu yesterday from Manjaro Linux yesterday for a networking lab
If anyone knows how to stop that problem from happening on the Gnome desktop please let me know and hopefully this helps someone in the future.
