How do i make Text Mesh Pro appear on game display?

Question

If i take the Text out of the Canvas it dissapears. The canvas is set to Overlay, display 1, and the default layer, as well as the text. The texts's Z position is the same as the other objects on screen. I just cant get it to appear on the game display. Help?

UI elements don't work outside of the canvas
