How to secure playerprefs and keep people from changing it?

Hello everyone, I have a game with the usual sensitive values (money, items, etc.) and using PlayerPrefs alone to store those values would be a no-no, as it seems to be possible to change them over in the files trivially by virtually anyone in no time. I am planning on adding a basic layer of security to my playerprefs until I can afford one of those fancier toolkits to get the job done. What are some options on PlayerPrefs security? I've read a little bit about some methods like hashes and md5 or something, but sources do not seem completely legit. What is the right course of action?

There is two things you can do.

  1. Encrypting and Saving Data - its a littlt bit more advance, and more practical in the real world.

  2. The second method is to save it as a Binary Data. But if the person knows what he/she is doing they can easily get past it.

  3. Using a local database system. This is also fairly secure and relatively easy

  4. Using a database/API on a server to store and retrieve data.

~ Not going into this because it seems like overkill and is hard to do if you havn't before.

@Cornelis-de-Jager Thank you so much, I don't know where I would be if it weren't for you. I'm personally going to the Binary Data one, partially because that tutorial is great.
