Unity editor freezes constantly
I am an absolute beginner to game design and downloaded the newest version of unity and visual studios. Anytime I navigate away from the editor, modify scripts, or sometimes when I hit play, the editor will become unresponsive. I have to close it and reopen it in order to get it to work again, but this makes getting any sort of practice or work done nearly impossible. I am working on a dell laptop with an intel I7 core. Is my laptop the problem or am I missing something?
Depends on what you are doing in Unity. It is a 3D engine so good cpu alone may not be enough. You likely have an integrated gpu. The are weak. Other than that, when you edit scripts and return to unity, it has to recompile them will can take time with large projects.
well my macbook pro late 2013 can handle unity.. i believe i5 and 2 onboard graphic chips..
Actually the editor is usually more demaning than the actual runtime. So if the editor starts / runs fine, there's most likely an issue in some of the code he wrote. Just having low hardware would rarely cause a complete freeze or hang of the editor. Either you run out of resources in which case the editor might actually crash or produce some sort of error, or you just get bad performance. Pretty much 99.9% of all hangs / freezes of the editor are caused by user code (i.e. an infinite loop of some sort)
