Adventure Game tutorial, Replacing models in the game world?

Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new here and have followed to tutorial for Adventure game, which was all well and good, however; there was no explanation of how an object was identified as a pickup. I want to change the models and the images to a different item, a blender file. I can't for the life of me find how to do this. I import the file and I can place the model in the world, but I can't see how to enable this item as a pickup as well as show it in the inventory.

Sorry if this is a "noob" question, but I'm at my wits end.

I myself have not watched the Adventure tutorial, so I dont know how they have it set up, though my guess is that you should either have:

  1. A "Prefabs" folder, with a bunch of objects in it - you can update the model of those objects by either dragging them into the game world, make your changes to that copy, then drag that copy back onto the same prefab you dragged out

  2. A tag, probably with the name "Pickup" or something similar - you can mark that item with that tag, by selecting the object, and at the very top of the Inspector for it, you will see Tag: and then whatever tag its currently assigned to, by default it will probably be "Untagged" if anything.

  3. Both 1 and 2.

First, what tutorial were you following and what step were you at? There are numerous ways to group objects as a certain type (be it having a script on the object that lets things that hit it know what it is, setting a tag, setting a layer, having another script group all objects of that type into an array at runtime, etc.), so without knowing what the tutorial's using we can't really help figure it out.
