Make menu appear if button is pressed

Im trying to make a pause menu so that if the pause button is pressed a menu would pop up in game with buttons for the menu, to resume,restart etc. and Im trying to make it with the new ui . Can anyone help?Is it even possible to do this with the UI and not the GUI? All help is appreciated

Yes it is possible and moreover it is possible in many different ways, like Masking, Animation, CanvasGroup, etc.
