How to rotate a cube on its edge and have the cube able to climb up other surfaces

I want to find a way to do rotation like in the game EDGE. I have found a way to rotate a cube horizontally, but I cannot find a way to do rotation much like the game EDGE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI_DGz8EM9U This is some EDGE gameplay, as you can see in the gameplay the cube not only rolls along a flat surface, but can also climb up and over other obstacles. Hopefully I can find some help!
