Does Unity support combining realtime shadows with the lightmapped shadows, and for dynamic objects to receive static lightmap shadows?
Okay, so I have been playing around with Unity for a while and I'm having some issues with lightmaps.
They look great and all, but as soon as I have a dynamic object in the scene, it looks awful. The dynamic objects do not blend in properly, even with lightprobes. (the red arrow is pointing to a cube which is a dynamic object)
In Unity 4 you had Mixed Lightmaps/rendering which I think dealt with this issue, but I cannot find it on Unity 5.3.
If it isn't obvious from the image the two issues are:
Dynamic Object Shadows do not blend in with the static lightmaps creating a dual shadow effect. I cannot just reduce the opacity, as it still doesn't blend in properly.
Dynamic Objects do not receive static lightmap shadows (Unreal can do this fine: https://udn.epicgames.com/Three/ShadowingReference.html check out the per dynamic object section)
I could potentially just render all the shadows realtime, but then that removes the point of having lightmaps in the first place, plus it doesn't blend in with the GI well enough (I am trying to target mobile too). Light probes do very little to cure this, as it still isn't sharp shadows, just the actual bounced lighting.
Any ideas? I read somewhere else in the forums that this issue is known and is planned to be fixed? Does anyone know when that will 100% be for. This is a huge deal breaker for me, and I don't think I can actually use this engine if you cannot get past this issue :(
