Reference external file in inspector

I need to be able to reference a file (that is not in my assets folder) in the editor, so I can import and compile them automatically. I've tried using a public FileInfo field, but unity won't display anything, even though it's marked as Serializable (I assume because it only has properties, no fields). Is there any script to help me select files from the editor?

Files are not a variable, totally depends on the type of file and what you want to do with it, for example if its an imagine or a txt, we need extra information
