Importing SketchUp models that are using components

When modeling simple objects in SketchUp I'm using components mainly to prevent creating lots of new faces when connecting say square and round faces.

I've created example model with one single component and one other component used 4 times. Next I've exported it to a FBX file and imported into Unity.

I got a result like on this screenshot. It's a single object with 5 subobjects. Main object has only the Unity Transform component, each of the 5 subobjects (one base, 4 columns - named as my components in SketchUp) have also only Unity Transform component but each of them has also one more subobject named Mesh1, Mesh2 etc. that has Unity Transform, Mesh Filter, Mesh Renderer, Mesh Collider components.

Is this is how it should be working? Should I now make an instance of it, add shaders, textures etc. and then save it as Prefab?

What's with the Mesh1 etc. names and subobjects? Even when I import simple model without using any components I got one object (named same as FBX file) only with Transform Unity component, and one subobject named Mesh1 (can't edit this name) with all the usual Unity Transform, Mesh Filter, Mesh Renderer, Mesh Collider components...
