Best practice for mixers and volume adjustment
We have multiple small games in one Unity project. All of them having a background music/theme and some sound fx. Our goal is, that all games plays there sounds with the same loudness.
The problem is, that all sounds have a different subjective loudness. By default, Unity sets the volume of a AudioSource to its maximum 1. Adding a new sound fx to a game becomes difficult, when it is very quiet. All the other sounds have to be adjusted quieter in order to get the same loudness as the quietest one.
Is it a good practice to to initial all AudioSources with a volume = 0.5 in order to adjust there loudness up and and down? Are there any down sides of this practice?
We've setup a audio mixer hierarchy.
Master
Music
GameA
GameB
SoundFx

GameB
The pro is, that we can set the relative loudness for music and sound fx for all games globally. Are there any cons of managing the audio mixers in this way?
Looking on the master's VU meter, what should be a the best/normal value in average? If it is to quiet, the user have to turn up its speaker volume, which can be noisy; if its to loud, the sounds hearts in the ears.
