Set UI component relative to another expanding UI component

i have two images next to each other and the right one expands to the left. how do i make the left image always keep the same distance from the right expanding one? i tried setting the anchor points in different ways but it doesn't work and after some research i found that setting the distance by script doesn't work either because of some resolution scaling problems
