Question by Pigghaj · Nov 16, 2013 at 08:13 PM · iosplayer settings

IOS, Target Device, whats the difference?

What the difference between the 3 options for unity iOS player settings "target device"?

The options are:

iPhone only iPad only iPhone + iPad

I've used iPhone only, but it runs just as well on my iPad. Is there a reason to select "iPhone + iPad"? What exactly does changing this option really do?

iPhone Only = non-universal app and it will run on iPad in 1x/2x mode (2x mode is 960x640 on the 1024x768 iPad display) iPad Only = won't install/run on iPhone iPhone & iPad = Universal app that is designed to be run on both iPhone and iPad

These are all settings in Xcode and will directly impact how your app (binary) is compiled.

Thanks, Yes I tested some and at least for my app making it universal would mean adding lots of code that detects and changes stuff if its an iPad its running on. Else it doesnt look as it should at all.:)

Does this also has to do with how it shows up in App Store? I mean if I do a universal binary it will show on as both "iphone" and "ipad" app, while if I make only an iphone binary, it'll only show up in the iphone section of App Store, and not in both? Or is that unrelated to this setting, and something you decide in App Store?

Yes it affects the App Store (& iTunes Connect, need both iPhone & iPad screenshots for a universal app) and yes, pre-iOS 7 universal apps would show a "+" meaning it includes both iPhone & iPad app. Not sure what it looks like in iOS 7, I'm sure there is some notification that it's a universal app.

Okay. Good to know. Thanks for your answers. For now I am sticking to iPhone only.
