What is editor overhead ? [2017.3]
I have fps and little bit lag. what is this? I don't get lag and fps drop on 2017.2
The name says it all I guess, it's the CPU usage of the Unity editor itself.
I think it's problem with GI cache and Windows Defender. How to fix: 1) in Unity open "Edit"->"Preferences...", on tab GI Cache copy link from Cache Folder Location (to stop lags immediately just set checkbox "Custom cache location" and select new folder); 2) open Windows Defender Settings -> "Add an exlusion", and add folder path that you copy before.

The editor requires resources too. The editor needs to render the GUI, and takes processing as well. While the game is being played you can modify the game through the scene viewer, view states of objects through the inspector, and far more. As such running your game from within the editor won't be as fast as building it and running it by itself. editor Overhead shows you how much the performance was affected by the resources required by the editor itself. It's possible changes in 2017.3 made the editor more intensive.

Same here, build is fine but in editor sometimes its impossible to work maxed or not.
This is really good to have that in Editor and know how much resources does it take.
In 2017.2 CPU was never above 9ms now it hits 30ms and profiles show this is mostly editor overhead and profiler fault even on maximized window run sessions.
Only way now I left is to build game every time and see how performance is behaving. And that cycle may take hours....
Before that it was not ideal but was pretty close to understand how changes were affecting performance esp if yo maximize window. P.s. Out game run in VR.

Same problem here... it starts ok but then my game starts lagging and when I open the profile the EditorOverhead is taking all the resources.

Yeah. I installed this patch, and all is good, but sometimes freezes returns for a short time, maybe they fix it completely later. Nevertheless, it's not so horrible as was in 2017.3.0f3.
never$$anonymous$$d. i can use this. we are no have a chance a use other version xD
Or you can downgrade to 2017.2. After all, I figured out that no need to fast upgrade to new version, 'cause a lot of bugs. In 2017.2 all was good, and all new features are not so useful.
