How to use mipmaps in code + detecting different faces of a mesh?
I want to make a foliage system.
So I have a mesh which is all of the grass in the whole level, because each plane of grass being its own object would result in about 400 different meshes and that is stupid.
I want to program this so that it can detect how far away a face of the mesh (a plane of grass) is from the camera. If its within far away zone number 1, it just becomes a lower quality version of itself. With mipmaps I am assuming. The grass image is 512 times 512 so if its far away it would become like 192 times 192 or something.
If its within far away zone number 2, the face vanishes. Meaning it doesnt have to be rendered.
