Question by zak666 · Feb 02, 2016 at 06:26 PM · skybox

Is it possible to fade seemlessly from one skybox to another?

Hi gang! making my start game ingame cutscene have my Rocket going into space and want to fade from one skybox to another to create a seamless transition into the game. somthing like this using UnityEngine; using System.Collections;

 public class Launchskyboxchange : MonoBehaviour {

     public material Skybox1;
     public material Skybox2;

     public float ChangeSkybox = 12f;

     // Update is called once per frame
     void Update () {

         // Fade skybox over time (fade materials.)
     }
 }

I guess you would somehow need to create a 3rd material from the 2 and change their alpha channels as you transition. I have no idea how to achieve this though.

thats sounds like a good Idea, I could use 2 spheres and fade out one to reveal the second since this is a scripted cutscene :D

You can achieve this by designing your own shader with e.g. Shader Forge. There you can create a skybox shader and then you could simply fade between two skybox textures.
