Replacing assets graphics with graphics downloaded through FTP

I'm struggling with replacing assets graphics with content downloaded through FTP on mobile game. I want to keep animations but change characters graphics. As I read there is no way to replace graphics during gameplay.

Have you any idea how to solve this problem?
