New GUI - Order of elements?

Hi all,

how do you change the arrangement order of new gui UI elements / objects? I know that this is normally done via the order of the children in unity, but this would mess up the VerticalLayoutGroup of the parent and make them switch positions in the group. Is there any other way?

Thanks in advance.

PS: I also tried playing around with the z value of the element I want to bring to the front, but it didn't change anything..
