Reimport sprite not working
I just finished part of a udemy course on setting up sprites, tiles, and rule tiles. I had no trouble with this.
Afterwords, I decided to go and draw some more tiles (outside of Unity) for my sprite sheet. So I did just that, and saved over the previous image file.
Then in Unity, I right click the sprite sheet and choose "Reimport," and although, I get no error messages displayed, the sprite sheet does not change. It doesn't update to the correct image.
I double checked I saved over the right file, so that's not the problem. What could I be doing wrong?
(I'm using Unity version 2018.2.5f1)
Just a status update: I effortlessly recreated this glitch several times for testing purposes. I tried creating new, blank projects, and adding a sprite to the assets. But just as I described above: Right clicking and "reimporting" the sprite does not do what it's supposed to do. The sprite won't update to the modified image.
This indicates the problem has nothing to do with tile sets, nor rule tiles, or anything else.
I tried the same process with two different versions of unity. I tried saving projects and images to different locations. I even tried uninstalling Unity Hub. But none of that made a difference.
I found another user who seems to have encountered the same problem back in 2016: https://answers.unity.com/questions/1240444/reimport-sprites-how-to.html
Thankfully, the "workaround" suggested in the answers there, actually worked! By manual going into the Unity Assets files, I can paste a copy of the image I want to reimport, and choose "copy and replace" to successfully update the file. So, at least I'll be able to continue development. : )
I repeated this entire process with a 3d model (.obj), and it's the exact same story.
(A fix would be much more convenient than a workaround of course. If I don't find a fix soon, I might just uninstall Unity and reinstall it, as a last resort...)
I'm experiencing a similar issue when updating individual sprite images.
