UI Button onclick not detected

I have an app with 4 buttons. Since my last update to unity, they all aren't clickable any more! As for example, you can see the little red square next to the gear icon. That is the only part where the onclick gets called. I haven't found the little click area for the other 3.

How do I make this work?

And these are the properties of my canvas. Note that I tried every combination with blocking masks and blocking objects
