I'm making multiple characters, how can I use them in new scenes?

I have a shop setup in my game and I'm able to purchase more Characters but they can't be used... When the game loads it still uses the initial player. I'm new and doing my best to figure this out but everything I've found doesn't answer my question. Basically, I want to use new characters purchased in the shop on my Main Menu scene and use them on my Game scene. I know this is possible, I just can't figure it out on my own. If you know how, please help. Thanks
