How to fix unity editor UI, and what dose the icon in the bottom right mean?
Just installed unity on my new PC, and it seems the UI is so broken its almost unusable, any time a new tab is selected its covered in black boxes. When trying to access preferences all of the pages seem to overlay on each other.
Also there seems to be this strange icon in the bottom right of all the windows, i have no idea what it means, and if its anything to do with my problem.

This has nothing to do with Unity. You have some sort of background application that injects that icon into every render context. Just like FRAPS or Steam does. I don't know what kind of software that might be, but it doesn't belong to Unity.
turning off nvidia controller stopped the icon but the black bars in the GUI still persist
Have you restarted Unity? When other applications inject code it can mess up the actual program.
even after force closing all but essential background programs the glitches still appear, i think it might just be bad DPI scaling as im running a qhd ultrawide. but thanks for helping anyway

Turns out it was Asus sonic suite 2 that was causing the issue. Didnt expect an audio manager to be interfering with unity but if anyone else has a similar issue, this could be the answer.
