Is it possible to store one dimension of a 2d array into a 1d array?

I am testing my skills by programming a game of Blackjack, but I've hit a snag with the cards. I need to store one dimension of an array into a 1d array. Is there a way to do this? Feel free to ask for any more info related to this problem. Thanks in advance!
